shootout at lokhandwala :the film review.

we all know where our policemen stand vis-a-vis the dreaded underworld of mumbai. neither the policemen are saints nor the criminals are bravehearts and heroic in their action.it is a established fact that that both of these groups stand somewhere between the two limits just mentioned above.

first of all the verdict – the film is strictly above average at best and very very mediocre at worst depending upon your inclinations.but definitely not a class apart.

the film starts with a racy casting stuff with background of the shootout venue.and here comes a reporter asking about about the need to carry such an operation in residential complex.you can ask whether there was any private news channel in the country at that point of time (1990-92).the film is based on an so called shootout at the place described in its name.it is also rumoured to be a fake encounter as we all know and not what we  get to see .

the film starts with the punjab militancy and nexus of underworld, and yet the connections are not properly investigated and leaves a lot to be desired.the main plot has five main shooter of the mumbai underworld leaded by maya (vivek).it is refreshing change for him after so many hopeless films and roles.he is one fearless guy who does not even think twice before he kills a cop in the lockup (quite heady stuff, right!).he is the ace of the don sitting in dubai ,who runs the mumbai’s extortion “business”.he eliminates all gangleaders who are directly or indirectly opposing his supremacy.and then he is joined by Bhua (tusshar kapoor) another dreaded gangster.tusshar does not look very convincing in that role of Bhua, thanks to his cute baby face and very very desperate overacting.

all  film is in the form of question and answer between the mumbai ATS chief and an enquiry commission headed by amitabh bachchan (who retd. chief justice of high court).mumbai ATS chief is played by sanjay dutt.both have delivered power packed performances.amrita singh as the mother of maya is also very impressive.

music and dances are catchy and still you can take a break in between. at the climax, maya comes direct in conflict with the don in dubai.and then his ruin comes suddenly…..when his information of hideout is leaked to police by the don himself.and the shootout results between the goons and the cops.and as usual the goons get killed heroically and as bravehearts . and you are compelled to pass sympathies to them.but really its not so easy that too…..at last an ambivalent feeling encompasses you, when all the cops in the shootout are exonerated.

so the mantra is to see the film with open mind and not to expect much as you may feel a bit disappointed.
